"DID YOU KNOW THAT A JAPANESE SKINCARE ROUTINE CAN TAKE UP TO MORE THAN 10 STEPS?"

      AUGUST 3, 2017 | AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands

Not very long ago I travelled to one of my favourite countries - Japan - and this time I got really inspired by the Japanese woman and their extensive daily skincare routine. And no, I'm not talking about the crazy beauty tools like double eyelid glue or face expanders (seriously, does that even work ?!).

I found out that some routines even take up more than 10 steps, crazy right?! Apparently these women and girls take their skincare very serious, no wonder that some mother-daughters even look like sisters! - For real though, I'm not kidding.

So when I got back to Holland I started to experiment with creating a similar routine that worked for my overly dry-and sensitive skin. If I'm not in a rush, I go for the full routine (I'll tell you more about that the next few weeks) but today I'm showing you my 3 essential steps for whenever I have hit that snooze button way too many times.

    CLEANSING

A common misunderstanding is that cleansing your face in the morning will wipe off all the good things that you've put on your skin last night - WRONG! A good cleanse in the morning will wipe off all the sweat and dead skin that accumulated while you were asleep. And even if you thoroughly cleansed your skin the night before, there might be a little make-up here and there that you might have missed!

I start with a gentle cleansing milk from the L'Oréal Paris Delicate Flowers line; perfect for my sensitive skin as it contains jasmine and rose that both have a calming effect. I apply this on my face with my hands using circular moves (don't forget the eyes!) and wipe it off with a cotton pad.

    AND MORE..
    CLEANSING!

Yup, it's all about the rise, cleanse and shine. You can choose to apply the cleansing milk a second time, but I prefer a deeper cleanse using a foam or a gel, especially in the morning - I guess I just need that splash of cold water in my face to wake up! So for the second step I use the L'Oréal Paris Delicate Flowers cleansing gel, which I apply in the palms of my hands, then work it over my face and neck and wash it of with water afterwards.

    FINISHING
    TOUCH

For the last step: toning! A lot of people just skip this one after the whole cleansing part but this is just as important as the rest *read: just as important as Sasuke is for Naruto*, you get the point. For the finishing touch I use the L'Oréal Paris Delicate Flowers tonic; apply this on a cotton pad and wipe it over your face and neck. Tonics are designed to remove any cleanser residue and also chemicals found in tap water that can dehydrate your skin. Have I already told you that it smells really good too?

P.S, depending on your skin, step 4 would be applying a moisturising day cream. Usually I do this, but that also depends on how much treatment my skin needs that day!
